Canadian Men and Russian Women: A Match Made in Heaven

Canadian men and Russian women go great together. Why? They both believe in family values! Scientific research and testimonials show that both parties are dedicated to building solid marriages and loving families.

Canadians Value Family Life

In 2002, Focus on the Family Canada, together with independent market research company The Strategic Counsel, polled 1,500 Canadians on a variety of family issues. The survey results are as follows:

• 79% of Canadians stated that “maintaining a good, strong marriage” is important
• 68% of the respondents ranked parenthood as a top priority
• 73% of Canadians disagreed with the notion that marriage is an outdated institution
• 76% of those polled indicated a preference for parental child care

Family Also Important to Russian Women

Traditional family values are important to Russian women and the reason why many ladies decide to pursue relationships with Western men. Here are some quotes from real Russian women.

• “I am looking for someone who wants a loving and happy family and a loving home.”
• “I dream about having a happy, friendly family with a kind, reliable, and intelligent man.”
• “I need someone who wants to create a good and loving family for the long years of our life.”
• “I dream about a happy family.”
• “I have strong family values and the most important thing for me is to be next to a man who can be a good and caring husband.”

Russian Women Like Tattoos Too

Tattoos! Who hasn't seen the ink proudly displayed by American celebrities like Angelina Jolie or Megan Fox? But did you know that Russian (and Ukrainian) stars sport tattoos as well? Here are 8 Russian and Ukrainian women and their sexy body art.

Anna Kournikova

Russian tennis sensation Anna Kournikova has a large star design tattooed on her lower back, and she isn’t afraid to show it off. Rumors have circulated that Anna also has a tattoo on her stomach, but she claims these stories are false.

Anastasia Davydova

Anastasia Davydova is a competitive synchronized swimmer with a trail of colorful butterflies inked across her back. Anastasia and her swim partner took home the gold at the 2004 and 2008 Summer Olympics. Anastasia was also part of the Russian gold medal team those same years.

Yulia Volkova

Yulia Volkova, half of the appropriately named Russian music duo t.A.T.u, sports a number of different tattoos. According to her Facebook fan page, the tattoo on Yulia's back is an Arabic inscription that means deep love, while the tattoos on her shoulder blade mean love and peace.

Svetlana Kuznetsova

Russian tennis player Svetlana Kuznetsova has a tiger tattoo on her lower abdomen. In a recent interview, Svetlana said she got the tattoo because she loves tigers and she is often motivated to fight like a tiger on the tennis courts.

Alona Bondarenko and Kateryna Bondarenko

Sisters and Ukrainian tennis players Alona and Kateryna Bondarenko have identical wing tattoos between their shoulder blades. Kateryna sports the letter A beneath the wings, while Alona has entwined hearts and the letter K. The tattoos are in honor of each other.

It's not just celebrities who are into body ink, these ordinary Russian women also love tattoos!

Why Russian Women Want Western Men...

Many people want to know why Russian women are interested in foreign men. These individuals might ask: “Why can’t the ladies find a partner in their own country?” or “Don’t they just want a green card?” While each lady is unique, there are a few common reasons why Russian women might choose to pursue Western men. So what are they?

A Shortage of Russian Men

The shortage of Russian men is perhaps the biggest reason Russian women try to find love overseas. Russian women outnumber Russian men 4:1 so there are simply not enough men to go around. To further complicate matters, young Russian men (ages 18-27) are required to serve one year in the Russian army (recently down from 18 months), so many men do not have time to commit to a serious relationship. Factor in heavy drinking and the financial difficulties that plague many Russian men, and it is no wonder that Russian ladies are attracted to international matchmaking services.

A Sense of Adventure

Not all Russian women want to marry a foreign man, and not all Western men want a foreign bride. Though it may sometimes seem that every lady in Russia is a member of a Russian dating site, in actuality only a small, adventurous group of women seek love online. These ladies are intrigued by men from other countries and want to explore new cultures and customs. They are curious about global dating and are willing to consider all options, something many people can’t or won’t do.

The Ladies Are Drawn to Traditional Values

In general, Russian women believe that Western men are more family-orientated than their Russian counterparts. As many Russian women long to get married and have a family, they are drawn to international dating sites to find eligible men with these same goals. While there are certainly many marriage-minded men in Russia, the overall shortage of men makes such males a rare find and many Russian women choose to seek love elsewhere.

4 Common Myths About Russian "Mail-Order" Brides

The Russian dating industry is plagued with negative and inaccurate stereotypes. Unfortunately, these persistent myths give international dating sites a bad name and prohibit many men from trying such services. Below you’ll find four of the most common stereotypes about Russian dating and why these myths are just not true.

The Women are Poor and Miserable

Perhaps the most common stereotype about Russian women is that they are helpless, poverty-stricken women who are desperate to leave their miserable home country. While situations vary from woman to woman, this scenario is very rare. Russia has come a long way since the collapse of the Soviet Union, and many Russian women enjoy rewarding careers and fulfilling relationships with family and friends. Would several of the ladies like to live abroad? Yes. Many Western women want to live abroad as well. Are Russian women desperate to escape Russia and move overseas? It’s not likely. Believe it or not, the majority of the women on Russian dating sites are not helpless victims who longed to be saved.

The Women Only Want a Green Card

Many people believe that women on international dating sites are only after one thing: a green card. While there are certainly ladies out there who want immigration rights, the majority of Russian women need a more compelling reason to uproot their lives for an unknown future across the ocean. Why? It’s difficult! When a lady moves abroad, she leaves behind her friends and family, her memories and history, her language and culture. A green card alone is simply not worth this difficult move. Would you give up everyone and everything you knew just to reside in another country?

The Women are Gold-Diggers

Those who are unfamiliar with Russian dating services often assume that the women are only interested in Western men for their money. This myth goes hand-in-hand with the idea that all Russian women are poor and miserable, and both assumptions are simply not true. While Russian ladies may have less than their Western counterparts, the women are not dissatisfied with their lots and they often don’t see the need for Western luxuries at all. Love is far more important to a Russian lady.

The Women Can be Purchased/The Women are Prostitutes

Many people still believe that men can purchase women from foreign countries for a flat fee. While this may have been the case in the pioneer days of international matchmaking, it is certainly not the case today. The majority of ladies on Russian dating sites are not for sale and most will not submit to a gentleman’s will just because he has paid to speak with her. The membership fees clients pay help facilitate communication between Russian women and Western men (something both parties might never enjoy without international dating services). That’s it! If a man expects to “buy” a lady he is in for a rude awakening.

Angelina Jolie Appears in Russian Move Trailer

Columbia Pictures has released a trailer for Angelina Jolie’s latest flick, Salt, but unless you speak Russian you won’t understand much of the dialogue. Then again, does it really matter? Angelina Jolie looks just as hot speaking Russian (sort of) as she does speaking English.

In Salt, Angelina Jolie stars as a CIA officer who is accused of being a Russian sleeper spy. The hot agent must use all of her training to protect her family and escape persecution, a plot that has led many people to compare the film to the popular Bourne movies. Intrigued? You can catch the flick in theaters on July 23, 2010.

Enjoy the trailer below.

Don't Fall for Russian Stereotypes

Every country is plagued by inaccurate stereotypes. Outsiders view Americans as gun-toting hamburger lovers, the English as fish and chip eating polo players, and Canadians as passionate hockey fans with a penchant for maple syrup. So what do you picture when you imagine Russia? Vodka? Matryoshka dolls? Bears wandering down snow-covered streets? Russia is no stranger to misconceptions and chances are you have been guilty of associating Russians with one of the stereotypes listed below. Don't fall for them!

Stereotype #1: Everybody Loves to Drink Vodka

As one of the largest producers of vodka, it’s probably safe to say that Russians enjoy a good drink. However, contrary to popular imagination, most Russians do not guzzle vodka every day. Russians, like citizens of any other country, have jobs to hold and family commitments to meet. This would be very difficult to do if they quaffed vodka day in and day out. While Russia is known for its vodka just like Japan is known for its sake and Germany for its beer, the majority of Russians do not get drunk on vodka on a regular basis.

Stereotype #2: Russia is Always Cold and Everyone Wears Fur Coats

While it’s true that Russia is one of the coldest countries on earth, it is also a huge nation with a large variety of temperatures. In fact, the summers are as warm as Florida in some places and Russia’s Southern beaches draw many visitors. Don't believe me? Check out these photos of hot Russian women in bikinis.

As for fur coats, they are popular, but one can hardly claim that all Russians wear them. The idea that all Russians wear fur coats is just as inaccurate as the notion that all English people wear rain coats or that all Americans sport jeans and tennis shoes.

Stereotype #3: Russian Women Are Mail-Order Brides

Despite what some may think, Russian women are not desperate to marry foreigners. Many women enjoy happy, satisfying lives in Russia and even those who join Russian dating sites do not do so with immigration papers in mind. One of the quickest ways to insult a Russian woman is to call her a mail-order bride, so think before you speak.

Many other Russian stereotypes exist, but none are 100 % accurate. If you wish to impress a Russian lover, educate yourself about him or her home country rather than just relying on common myths. Shatter stereotypes about your own country as well. Intercultural relationships provide an excellent opportunity to learn about other nations and cultures. Take advantage of it!
